What Are The One Percenters In Terms Of Embroidered Motorcycle Patches
Many motorcycle clubs will identify themselves with the help of embroidered patches. They are also sometimes referred to as ‘colors’ and motorcycle patches beat the club’s distinct name and logo. Oftentimes you’ll see the back of a leather vest or jacket decorated with a main patch in the center, flanked by patches saying “MC” and “1%” on either side. If you’re curious as to what those things mean, “MC” stands for motorcycle club while “1%” means that the club is different from 99% of the rest of the clubs in the world.
The reason that these motorcycle clubs are different is that they have not been sanctioned by the AMA (American Motorcycle Association). AMA’s sanctioning requires that a motorcycle club adhere to strict rules of conduct and ethics. Clubs who prefer to remain independent of AMA standards simply won’t apply for membership. These clubs are known as “one percenters”.
Outlaws and the One Percenters
The problem for one percenter clubs is the fact that they are often regarded as being outlaw clubs when this may not necessarily be the case. While it’s true that all outlaw clubs are one percenters, not all one percenters are outlaws. So a motorcycle club can choose not to apply for AMA membership but will still be legal in every other sense. When it comes to not applying for AMA membership, there can be numerous reasons why this is the case. But one this is for sure, there is nothing to state that this club is operating outside of the law.
The problem for motorcycle clubs is the fact that there are some clubs out there that have tarnished the reputation of clubs everywhere. But it’s important to note that like any group, there are always a handful of individuals whose actions reflect negatively on the entire group. So it is not fair to assume that all members of motorcycle clubs are troublemakers. The truth is that most motorcycle clubs are reputable organizations that are proving beneficial to their own communities.
What are Lone Wolf Riders
When it comes to misunderstood bikers, there is another group and these are called lone wolves. The thing about lone wolves is that they love motorcycles and riding on the open road but they do not want to be associated with a particular motorcycle club. Such individuals prefer the freedom of being able to ride where they want, whenever they want, without necessarily having to ride with the group. While most bikers have no problem with lone wolves, there are a few who ostracize them and look down upon them.
The bravest of lone wolves will wear a lone wolf motorcycle patch on their vest or jacket. Because of their independence, you’ll also notice that very few lone wolf patches are alike. It makes sense that they are as individual as the bikers who wear them. If you’re a motorcycle rider who prefers not to be attached to a club it would stand to reason you wouldn’t be interested in a uniform patch that every other lone wolf also wears.
